Don't get me wrong, I love using the S8 / Note 8; They are among my favorite smartphones of 2017. And in fact, I have used the Note 8 daily, as you can see in my YouTube videos, after several months with the Mate 10 Pro. But what I hate with every inch of my being, are the horrendous emoji with which we have had to suffer for years.
Like all manufacturers, Emoji are Unicode characters with a text description, which are then adapted according to the interpretation of each one. The most recognized in the world even remain those of Apple, not only because of the popularity of the phone, but because WhatsApp, for years, pirate Apple emoji and implement them on your platform, regardless of whether we were on Android or iOS.
Samsung's interpretation, until recently. has left to be desired. But the good news is that Samsung Experience 9.0, which comes with Android Oreo, comes with a redesign of almost every emoji on the platform, which makes them look much more similar to the rest of the platforms.
Free interpretation and lack of uniformity have been detrimental, because sometimes, when we want to express something with emojis, the meaning can vary according to the platform.
Look, for example, at the eye roll, or roll your eyesWhen someone does something annoying and we want to show exasperation or disapproval, it took a totally different meaning in Samsung Experience 8.5 (Nougat), compared to other platforms. Something that has already been fixed in Samsung Experience 9.0
Yes, Android Oreo 8.0 brings quite a few new features for the Galaxy S8 – and it's already started shipping – but one of the most welcome changes, for me, is this standardization of emojis.
