Autodesk surprised us this week by announcing that Sketchbook, its digital drawing / creation app, would be moving from a paid model to a totally free one. In the past, the app used to offer a basic version with multiple options like brushes and effects locked behind for an additional fee. This new version makes everything that used to cost in the app completely free.
According to Autodesk, the update notes: Sketchbook for everyone! At Autodesk, we believe that creativity begins with an idea. From concept sketches to complete works, the sketching process is at the heart of the creative process. You never know when a great idea will come, so access to fast and powerful sketching tools is an invaluable part of any creative process. For this reason, we are excited to announce that the full version of SketchBook is free for everyone.
What is Sketchbook?
It is a tool that, as its name says, is aimed at making sketches, erasers of ideas that we have in our minds. In this sense, the app tries to facilitate the entire creative process, leaving us simply simple and basic tools to create and then evolve this idea into something more mature.
The tool, therefore, works much better with a stylus, so it is ideal for the 2018 iPad, iPad Pros, Galaxy Note 8, or Windows 10 tablets with a stylus, or a Wacom tablet.
Why is it free? Maybe Autodesk is working on a new app or paid version; Perhaps you have decided to stop the development or minimize the resources invested in the app and, therefore, you are offering it for free, since I cannot find any type of business model, now that the app is free. So let's take advantage of the offer and take a look!
